An endoscope can be used to examine the inside of the violin without opening the body.

A look inside revealed repairs, but no significant changes. The clearly visible label, often referred to as the violin's "birth certificate", bears the inscription: "Nicolaus Gagliano Filius / Alexandri fecit Neap. 1780".
