Description
This print is a translation of a life story of Cagliostro (1743-1795) published in Italian in 1790. In it, Cagliostro is portrayed as a godless heretic, fraudulent impostor, and political agitator. Moreover, as a Freemason, he was accused of complicity in the French Revolution that had just broken out. This French translation of the treatise was published by the Curia itself and appeared shortly after the Inquisition trial of Cagliostro and his sentencing to life imprisonment in 1791.
