Crook of the Bishop’s Crozier
Description
The enamellers of 13th-century Limoges produced numerous bishop’s croziers showing Christ as Pantocrator (ruler of the universe) on one side and the Virgin and Child on the other. Two centuries later, it seems the crook had depreciated so much in value that it was used as burial goods for the tomb of Johann von Venningen, a bishop of Basel who died in 1478.
