Cécilium by Arthur Quentin de Gromard, 19th c.
Description
Using the latest instrument technology of the time (so-called "punch-through" reeds as in harmonica and accordion), the cécilium was invented in 1861. With a range of a good 5 octaves (D1 to e1) and the elegant playing posture of a string instrument, the cécilium was intended to be versatile; it was also praised as "émminement expressif".
