Basel, dä Rap isch für Di!

Description

In the 1980s, a young hip hop scene evolved in Switzerland, inspired by US
artists. For a long time, English was also the language of rap over here. It
was a native of Basel who in 1992 eventually introduced rapping in dialect:
during a guest appearance for the P-27 formation, Urs Baur, aka Black Tiger,
decided while still in the studio to perform his part in the Basel German
dialect, instead of in English. The song ‘Murder by Dialect’ became a hit
and the inspiration for a whole generation of Swiss rappers.
