An idea is what remains
Description
On September 22 2013, Basel residents voted on an urban-planning idea: the western trackage of the SBB railway station between Passerelle and Margarethenbrücke was to be covered with an artificial park complex. In this way, the Gundeldinger district was to be better connected with the city centre via new pathways for bicycles and pedestrians. The ‘Central Park Basel’ initiative was clearly rejected with 60% no-votes. The model had been built by those who initiated the contested vote, and represented a non-binding design.
