Turkish pendant clock
Description
This clock is a remarkable testament to the relationship between Geneva and Turkey circa 1700. The Geneva gold enamel case features a miniature of the painting "Caritas Romana" by Simon Vouet, a favorite pictorial subject of the Huauds, on the back. Inside is a landscape painting of a wanderer and on the case sides are landscape medallions after Gabriel Perelle (1604-1677). The golden dial features old Turkish numerals. The movement is decorated with three finely engraved branch ornaments on the back plate and bears the Turkish signature "Waslak". The back plate and balance cock are shaped to form the "Hand of Fatima", an oriental amulet to ward off evil.
