Objekt 1

The Ryhiner-Leissler family making music, 1757

Description

Image right:
Father Emanuel Ryhiner-Leissler (cello) and older son Achilles Ryhiner-Delon (violin) and servant François.

Picture left:
Mother Elisabeth Ryhiner-Leissler and younger son Emanuel Ryhiner-Thurneysen (spinet).

The spinet shows striking similarities to the Basel instruments of father Peter Fridrich Brosi and son Johann Jacob Brosy.

The significance of the two paintings lies in the depiction of the almost life-size persons playing music in a Basel interior - probably in the former Ryhiner country house, Riehenstr. 154.
