Objekt 2401

The oldest picture of the city?

Description

The picture shows Basel as it was around the mid-13th century. Several buildings, such as the Münster or the bridge that has passed over the Rhine since 1225/6, are clearly recognisable. Other parts do not show the contemporaneous reality. Martinskirche is missing, for example. The picture was painted in 1707, based on a model from the 15th century, however.
