Since the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York, people around the world have demonstrated every year for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. In Zurich, this happened for the first time in 1978. There are also regular Pride events in Geneva, Lucerne or Bern. The first Pride in Basel took place on 1 July 2023. Around 1000 people paraded through the city under the motto "Basel tickt bunt". The atmosphere was boisterous and peaceful, even though many of the participants put up posters reminding people that the community still has many hurdles to overcome.
