Self winding clock
Description
This clock uses a large hand from the center to indicate the seconds on the edge of the main dial. A separate dial at the bottom indicates the hours and minutes in Roman numerals. Above it, there is a small regulation dial, which can be used to adjust the watch. As a special feature, the movement has a self-winding mechanism. Here, the movements when wearing the watch set an oscillating weight in motion, which winds the movement. Engraved into the oscillating weight here is: "Le temps passe sans retour" (time passes and does not return). Invented as early as around 1780, self-winding, today usually called "automatic winding," only became established with wristwatches in the 20th century.
