"Schröder's glass horizon" (spirit level)

Description

Two wooden supports, one with a fine adjustment screw, are used to set the level. The glass tube filled with a liquid is sealed at both ends and has a rounded wooden frame. The Frenchman Melchisédech Thévenot (1620-1692) is considered to be the inventor of the spirit level, and the spread and further development of this useful instrument in Europe took place in the 18th century.
