Round table clock with hour striking movement
Description
A grim reaper made of gold sits on the dial of this round table clock and shows the hours with his scythe. Skulls, crossed bones, and curled snakes form the feet of the clock. The silver-gilt case is set with rosettes of semi-precious and precious stones, and the movement is encased in reddish-brown agate. The clock has an hour striking movement. The transience of hourly striking with it is figuratively implemented in this clock, as was common for the time it was made. The maker, Johann Otto Halleicher (also Hallaicher, Haleicher, Halaicher) was the father of Matthäus Halleicher (1644-1704). Both were important clockmakers in Augsburg and produced pendant clocks, table clocks, mare clocks and automata.
