Description
Koppchen and saucer are each copied from a Kakiemon model.
The term Kakiemon for a certain style of Asian porcelain painting goes back to the Japanese ceramist Sakaida Kizaemon (1596-1666), called Kakiemon. His decorations are characterized by an exciting relationship between surfaces left white and painted sections. The motifs - mostly animals in combination with plants - are dominated by blue, red, blue-green and yellow. Fine, dark contours emphasize the, for our purposes, abstract character of the decorations. Most of the Kakiemon porcelains were intended for export to Europe, where these ceramics were extremely popular, especially in the first half of the 18th century. So it is not surprising that exact copies of Kakiemon porcelain were also made in Meissen.
