Portrait of Archduke Charles-Louis of Austria (1771-1847)
Description
Archduke Charles-Louis of Austria (1771-1847) of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine was an Austrian general. In March 1797 he achieved the Armistice of Leoben in negotiations with Napoleon I (reigned 1804-1814/15). In the Battle of Aspern on May 21-22, 1809, his troops finally inflicted a defeat on Napoleon, which is considered Napoleon's first defeat on a battlefield.
