Description
Johannes Burckhardt-Iselin (1783-1819) was a Basel manufacturer, councillor and lieutenant colonel. He is also depicted as such in the painting, not least to emphasize his status in society. His hand rests on the pommel of his sabre and his helmet with its high plume is at the bottom.
