Vitrine 21

Porcelain from Strasbourg

Description

In the late period of the Strasbourg manufactory, between 1773/74 and the bankruptcy in 1781, porcelain was also produced. The technical quality is quite modest, and the painting closely follows the decorations on faience. The lushness of the flowers - especially the very picturesque, densely filled roses - must mask the poor quality of the porcelain. In many cases, small leaves and flowers must cover defects in the surface.
