Polygonal sundial
Description
In this sundial, the noon line of the frontal dial is at 1 o'clock, thus showing the so-called "Basel time". The peculiarity of the Basel time, which was valid until 1798, was that the hours were not counted as completed hours, but as beginning hours. Since the highest position of the sun thus fell at one o'clock rather than twelve o'clock, Basel clocks were one hour ahead of the clocks in the surrounding areas.
