Description
The firm of Clarke & Dunster operated in Amsterdam and London from 1703 to about 1730 and was based on a collaboration between Christopher Clarke (c. 1668-1735) and Roger Dunster († 1747). The firm sold high-quality large and small clocks in the Dutch and English markets. Christopher Clarke, an English-born and trained clockmaker, married Anna Fromanteel, daughter of Ahasverus Fromanteel (1607-1693), in Amsterdam in 1694. After Clarke moved back to London in 1730, Dunster continued to work under his own name. Clocks by Clarke & Dunster are also in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
