Plate with Merian-Wirz alliance coat of arms
Description
In 1736, Emanuel Merian (1677-1738) married in second marriage the widowed Sarah Wirz (probably 1683-1748). The coats of arms of the two families are depicted in the center of the bowl. Presumably, the service was created on the occasion of their marriage. As with other orders, the civic Basel coats of arms underwent an enhancement: a margrave's crown was added to them.
