Plaster bust of Count Cagliostro

Description

Among Cagliostro's greatest admirers were the Basel silk ribbon manufacturer Jakob Sarasin (1742-1802) and his wife Gertrud Sarasin-Battier (1752-1791), who is said to have cured Cagliostro of a serious illness. It is therefore hardly surprising that Sarasin's possessions included this plaster bust of Cagliostro. And this was by no means an isolated case. Thus, the person of Cagliostro was present in the form of busts or portraits on engravings, fans and tobacco boxes in many salons of the time.
