On stage. Animals as entertainment
Description
Spectators of all ages applaud enthusiastically when the horses at Zirkus Nock start dancing. Basel Zoo’s trumpeting elephant is world famous and Japan is home to elephant automatons that can play drums and cymbals. The donkey in the shadow puppet theatre of 1780 was able to wiggle his ears and walk on two legs while playing the bagpipes. Why we assign certain instruments to certain animals remains a mystery.
