Vitrine 3
On Basel tables
Description
The arrangement of the objects in this display case essentially corresponds to a table setting of the time around 1730: symmetry, regularity and abundance determined the picture. There were tureens in large numbers, as well as bowls, platters, butter dishes, and ice and oil vessels. The center of a festive table was always a large centerpiece. The high bowl ("pyramid") placed on top of it set a dominant accent and presented precious fruits, very often the particularly coveted lemons.
