Raum 225

Napoléon III Room

Description

The name of France’s ruler during the Second Empire (Napoleon III, 1852–1870) has been given to a period in which a whole series of previous styles were imitated. The Gothic and Classical styles were especially appreciated, but the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo were also popular. Boudoirs (ladies’ chambers) were often furnished with highly decorated furniture modeled on the ornate Rococo style favoured in Paris in the 18th century.
