Vitrine 5
18th century mustard jars: porcelain
Description
The theme of the collection is explained by the professional background of the collectors: Paul Robert Thomi-Neyrinck (1923-2021), owner and long-time director of the company Thomi + Franck, put it together with his wife Christiane (1931-2018). Initially, the collection was exhibited in the "Thomy" company building on Horburgerstrasse and provided the cultural and historical background to the mustard specialties produced and sold there. The collection was generously donated to the Basel Historical Museum in 2021 by the heirs of Paul R. and Christiane Thomi-Neyrinck. Around half of the donation is on display in the two showcases in this room.
