Louis XVI style seating set

Description

The seating furniture covered with blue silk damask was part of the furnishings of the "Golden Lion" house. This stately residence in the Aeschenvorstadt was built in 1739 by order of the wealthy merchants Abraham and Franz Legrand. forty years later, Gertrud and Niclaus Legrand sold their "dwelling and courtyard together with stables, shed and garden, also a running well" to the merchant Christoph Burckhardt-Frey (1736-1813). Soon after moving in, the new owner furnished his salon with exquisite furniture in the French style. This "Blue Salon" got its name from the light blue silk damask with which the walls were covered and the upholstered furniture. Today, the furniture fits stylistically very well into the large salon of the textile manufacturer's house.
