Lorgnon with clock
Description
The lorgnon was a reading aid held in front of the eye, especially popular with ladies in the 19th century. The combination with a watch is rather rare and identifies the object as a luxury item. Here, the case, richly engraved with rose bouquets, contains a jump mechanism for unfolding the lorgnon and opening the watch cover. Engraved next to the small clock is the inscription "Gögel & Olivet à Genève ECHAPPEMENT A CYLINDRE HUIT TROUS EN RUBIS No 6932". This is a high quality movement. The finely enameled enamel cartouche on the jump cover above the clock shows two girls in a park, one of them reading a book.
