"Gas" stove for doll kitchen
Description
In the 1920s, gas cookstoves gradually replaced wood- or coal-fired stoves. This toy stove represents a gas stove as it was standard in real kitchens of the time. Despite its small size, it was possible to "cook" with it; this was made possible by a spirit-fueled burner. The white lacquering of the plate corresponds to the preferences for the "white kitchen", as it was common since about 1900 and brought brightness, clarity and the impression of hygiene into the kitchens.
