Fireplace clock with musical movement
Description
The mantel clock with a gilded bronze case has a striking mechanism that strikes a bell every hour and half hour. On call and on the hour strike, it also triggers a roller chime that plays four melodies. The back is pierced with sound holes in the form of leaf vines to allow the sound to escape. The white enameled dial shows Turkish hour numerals and the signature "Le Roy & Breguet" in Arabic script. This watch was intended for the Turkish market and according to tradition was made for the harem in Istanbul.
