Decagonal table clock

Description

Samuel Berckmann came from Silesia and lived in Augsburg since about 1660, where he married the widow of a clockmaker in 1667. His specialty was ten-cornered table clocks, of which numerous have survived. The engraved signature "Samuel / Berckhmann / Augusta" is found on the plate inside bottom. The case, decorated with engravings and hallmarks, stands on four feet. Each side gives a view of the movement through a small window. On the dial ring, Roman numerals (I-XII) indicate the full hours and a separate mark indicates the half and quarter hours. The alarm disc bears Arabic numerals (1-12). The bell is located at the bottom of the case.
