Raum 310

Corner room

Description

Through the oval window one could already observe the events on Elisabethenstrasse during the lifetime of the owner of the house, Johann Rudolf Burckhardt (1750-1813). The miniatures on the walls are mostly by the German-Swiss painter Marquard Fidel Domenikus Wocher (1760-1830), who was active in Basel and Bern. Among them are two contemporary portraits of the poet, pedagogue and theologian Johann Peter Hebel (1760-1826), who spent part of his childhood in Basel.
