Objekt 2406
City in a rural setting
Description
The painting shows Basel approximately from the Steinengraben. In the foreground,
children play on the Steinen redoubt. Today, this is a spot where
traffic flows past on the four-lane Cityring, and several school buildings
are meanwhile located between the viewer’s position and the city as shown
here. From the left, we can see the St. Leonard’s Church, the Münster and
the Barfüsser Church, although the facade of the Münster appears somewhat
rotated. In the right-hand half of the picture, the Haus zum Kirschgarten
stands out, at the time still painted in bright colours.
