Chair clock
Description
The Liechti family of clockmakers was active in Winterthur from the 15th century. The locksmith and clockmaker Laurentius Liechti (†1545) constructed about 19 tower clocks, including the astronomical clock of the Liebfrauenkirche in Munich in 1514, which no longer exists. Tower clocks were the main focus until the middle of the 16th century, when the heyday of domestic clockmaking began. Andreas Liechti, born in 1562, continued the workshop of his father Erhard Liechti (†1591) and made mainly indoor clocks. This clock was later converted from wheel balance to anchor escapement, and in 1742 the painting was renewed.
