Chair clock
Description
Unlike his father Laurentius Liechti (†1545) and his brother Laurentis II Liechti (†1598), who mainly constructed tower clocks, Erhard Liechti made almost only house clocks, of which about three dozen have survived. His oldest clock bears the date 1557, the last one was made in 1591. Erhard probably learned the craft in Germany. The room clocks of the Liechti family are excellent testimonies of the late medieval clockmaking art. The painting of this clock was restored in 1703, furthermore a conversion from wheel balance to front pendulum took place.
