Cécilium, Normandy, 19th century
Description
The Cécilium was invented in 1861 using the latest instrument technology at the time (so-called "resounding" reeds, as on the harmonica and accordion). With a range of a good 5 octaves (D1 to e1) and the elegant playing position of a string instrument, the cécilium was intended to be versatile and was also praised as "émminement expressif".
