Bound quarto clavichord with overbox, 17th c.

Description

Individual parts date from the 17th century, additions and reconstructed elements from the 19th and 20th centuries.

In the bound clavichord, up to three adjacent keys share a pair of strings. Clavichords with triple bindings were made mainly in the 17th century.

Range C/E - c3 (45 keys, short bass octave); stringing throughout with two strings

C/E-A (fretless); Bb-H, c-c sharp, d-d sharp-e, f-f sharp-g, g sharp-a-b, h-c1-c sharp1, d1-d sharp1-e1, f1-f sharp1-g1, g sharp1-a1-b1, h1-c2-c sharp2, d2-d sharp2-e2, f2-f sharp2-g2, g sharp2-a2-b2, h2-c3 (bound)

Fourth clavichord, i.e. the key pattern deviates from the sounding pitch. If the key for c1 is played, f1 is sounded.
