Beard bowl/shaving basin with coat of arms of the Basel Buxtorf family
Description
Shaving basins were popular gifts. But rarely has a shaving basin achieved such a high artistic status as this object. Christian Wilhelm von Löwenfinck (1720-1753) from the famous family of porcelain painters von Löwenfinck, who worked in various manufactories, created the decoration. He worked in the Strasbourg manufactory from 1748 until his death in 1753. He confidently signed the work on the reverse in gold lettering: 'v. Löwenf peint:'
