Description

Automated clocks like this one document the splendor of the European courts and the rich urban bourgeoisie as well as the joy of the new technical possibilities of the 16th century. On a richly decorated base stands the figure of a riding pasha accompanied by a dog. At the stroke of the hour the rider turns his head, raises his arm with the mace and the dog jumps. The horse moves its eyes with its walking gear. Between the horse's legs are the dial with hour and minute indications and a small dial for judging the striking mechanism. In addition, the clock has an alarm movement.
