Arrival of Princess Marie Thérèse Charlotte (1778-1851) in Basel

Description

The portrait depicts the arrival of the French princess (1778-1851) in Basel on April 26, 1795. On that day, the princess, who was the only member of the royal family to survive the Revolution, was released on an estate near Basel in exchange for French prisoners of war. The engraving shows the entrance to the Reber estate. In the background you can see the St. Johannstor.
