Animated Barfüsserplatz

Description

This view of Barfüsser Square looking towards Steinenvorstadt was created in
1820, one year before the Barfüsser monastery and adjoining city wall, including
the Esel tower, were torn down. The demolition of the old abbey building,
which had served as a school for more than two centuries, opened
out the square towards Steinenvorstadt. To the right in the picture, we can
see a building with the painting of an ostrich, which now houses the restaurant
Bodega zum Strauss. In this house, the doctor Johannes Fatio lived,
who was executed in 1691 as leader of an uprising.
