The Exhibition ‘Upcycling Music’ presents creative musical instruments made from recycled materials and invites visitors to try them out.
The exhibition shows instruments that the South Tyrolean musician Max Castlunger has created from used objects. Among other things, drums, gongs and unusual instruments can be seen, heard and, above all, played.
Who would have thought that instruments could be made from hospital oxygen tanks? The South Tyrolean musician Max Castlunger has created drums, gongs and other extraordinary instruments that can now be seen and played at the Music Museum.
The instruments, made from oil barrels, tree trunks, PVC pipes, garden furniture and many other materials, offer space for personal discovery. Visitors can play them themselves and experience how the individual sounds are created, how playing influences the tone and how diverse the materials are. They can also learn more about the individual instruments on concert tours and make music together.
We warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition ‘Upcycling Music’.

Max Castlunger (b. 1978 in Bolzano, Italy) is a musical multi-talent: he builds instruments, plays the drums, leads bands, teaches, invents and entertains. His unusual instruments often come about through found objects that he discovers on the side of the road.
‘Every instrument consists of at least one really old part that is given new life through the upcycling process.’
Max Castlunger
