Valve Trumpet in g (so-called Bach trumpet)

Angefertigt / von / Jos. Menke / In / Koln a/Rh. (engraving, bell)

The highly sophisticated technique of clarino blowing disappeared at the latest at the beginning of the 19th century. At the turn of the century, when efforts were made for a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, new instruments were developed for the high register and from the beginning 20th century onwards, high trumpets with piston valves were created which were called Bach trumpets.

The present trumpet is a late example of these efforts.
