Object 2

Natural Trumpet in E flat

Trumpets No. 1 and 2 were supplied to the Basler city councillors on 23 August 1578 by 'Jacob Steiger dem trommeter'.
They were part of the inventory of the Basel Armoury for centuries and were acquired by the former 'Medieval Collection' via the canton of Basel-Land in 1874 and 1880.
They are the oldest definitely dated and perfectly preserved bugle shaped trumpets in existence.
