This piece follows the tripartite structure that was an invention of the 16th and 17th centuries and is typical of all such cabinets. The 17 little drawers have silver-plated drawer pulls in the shape of the heads of angels, ladies, and lions. Four more little drawers are hidden behind the central drawerand there is another secret compartment hidden inside the lid. Surprising the viewer was often an important part of what such miniature cabinets did.
