Room 302

Dining room from the Segerhof

As in the neighboring Visitenstube, the plain oak paneling and the tiled stove are from the "Segerhof" (Blumenrain 17), which was built around 1790 for the businessman Christoph Burckhardt-Merian (1740-1812). Tsar Alexander I of Russia took up residence in this distinguished merchant's residence in January 1814
On the wall by the clock are portraits of the Basel engraver and art dealer Christian von Mechel (1737-1817) and his wife Elisabeth (1740-1786). On the wall opposite, the portrait shows the Basel silk ribbon manufacturer Johann Jakob Bachofen-Burckhardt (1755-1828), who had many estates in Basel and the surrounding area, such as the Schlossgut near Homburg and the Weisse Haus on the Rheinsprung.
