According to the information of the donator, his father Adolf Egger, who was also a brass instrument maker in Basel (1911 - 1972), the instrument was played from c. 1940 to 1970 in the Basler Musik Verein which became later the Stadtmusik Basel.

He had received it from an elder musician of the 'French school', where instruments in C were common; this wasn't the case in Basel.
