OF THE MUSEUM OF HISTORY

The permanent exhibition at the Museum of History shows selected aspects of civic history from the Middle Ages to the present. Ecclesiastical works of art that predate the Reformation, including the Basel Dance of Death and Basel Cathedral Treasury, count among the highlights.

Die mittelalterliche Kirche war voll von Bildern mit Christus und Maria. Neben diesen beiden Hauptakteuren finden sich aber auch zahlreiche «Assistenzfiguren», wie Engel, Esel und Heilige, deren Bedeutung nicht zu unterschätzen ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund präsentieren zwei wissenschaftliche Assistenten aus dem HMB die Nebenfiguren der neuen Dauerausstellung «Glaubenswelten des Mittelalters».

Ausstellungen sind erst nach der Eröffnung für das Publikum zugänglich. Wie kommen diese überhaupt zustande? Was muss alles bedacht werden? Am Beispiel der neu geplanten Dauerausstellung "Zeitsprünge - Basler Geschichte in Kürze" thematisieren wir, wie Ausstellungen konzipiert, aufgebaut und eingerichtet werden.

 

Die Veranstaltung ist Dank der Unterstützung durch die Emma Schaub Stiftung kostenlos.

Until 22 June 2019, the nave of the Barfüsserkirche is being rearranged. Hence, many objects of the city’s history are not on display. From 22 June, we will welcome you with our new presentation «Leaps In Time – A Brief History Of Basel».
