Petra Emmel, born in 1962 Germany, has lived in Switzerland for 17 years. Basel has become her second home. As a passionate hostess, she learned the hotel business from scratch, attended the hotel management school in Heidelberg and worked for the Dorint Hotel Group for 16 years.
In 2006, she followed the call to Switzerland and became General Manager of the Ramada Plaza Basel in the Messeturm (today Hyperion Hotel Basel) and also managed the Ramada Hotel Zurich as Cluster General Manager from 2013 to 2014. During this time, she was a member of the board of the Basel Hotelierverein and sat on the vocational training committee of Hotellerie Suisse. After four years at the Holiday Inn Zurich Messe opposite the Hallenstadion, Petra Emmel returned to her favourite Swiss city of Basel in 2018 and integrated the Hotel Merian with Café Spitz into the largest Swiss-owned hotel group for Sorell Hotels Switzerland.
In 2021, she decided to make a new career start outside the hotel and catering industry. Before Petra Emmel joined the HMB as Head of Visitor Services, she worked as Head of Administration at the think tank metrobasel and also managed the office of the NPRG (Nordwestschweizerische PR Gesellschaft). Petra Emmel lives in the Hirzbrunnen district. Besides jogging and cycling in the Dreiländereck, she loves the summer in Basel with swimming on the Rhine.
