Janine Meier has been head of the Conservation Department since December 2024. Her professional career has already taken her to the Museum der Kulturen, the Bernisches Historisches Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Before her studies, she completed an apprenticeship as a goldsmith, during which she acquired practical knowledge in traditional metalwork. She completed her studies in conservation and restoration at the Bern University of the Arts, the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the Haute École Arc in Neuchâtel, where she specialised in metalwork for her master's degree. She is still associated with the Haute École Arc through her work on the expert committee for bachelor's theses. Janine Meier has also completed a CAS in project management at the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
Since she started working at the HMB in 2021, Janine Meier has been living in Basel – and can no longer imagine a summer without swimming in the Rhine.
