I remember writing down the names of the songs and the artists knowing absolutely nothing about any of them, having no idea what to expect. When we watched it, I absolutely loved the whole show! You get to enjoy songs from so many different countries and languages, every song completely unique from the next, and support and feel love and joy for countries that you barely knew anything about before - I couldn't believe we'd never tried this before! My grandparents, who we hadn't been able to see much since the beginning of the pandemic, got excited about Eurovision too and were frantically texting us their scores and opinions of each song - so it was the first time in ages we got to do a fun activity all together, which was so important!
2021 was also a very special Eurovision for me, because the Norwegian artist that year, TIX, has OCD and included themes of mentally struggling in his song - I struggle with OCD too and never imagined that someone with OCD could be on Eurovision! I was so excited when he performed, I had always thought "someone like me" just couldn't do things like being a singer or performing on a stage, and I was so happy to see him prove that I was wrong.
As you can see on the scoresheet, we gave Norway almost all 12s! You might also notice that we gave the winners of that year, Måneskin from Italy, very low points - none of us really like rock! But that's ok because, as I learned that night, the beauty of Eurovision is that each country brings something completely different every year and something completely different wins the contest every year too! Now I am a big Eurovision fan and follow the contest and the Junior contest every year!
I think the scoresheet could be a good fit for the museum collection because although it's a humble object, it tells the story of how Eurovision brought people together again after being separated during the pandemic - a super important and triumphant moment in Eurovision's history that should always be remembered with joy. It also shows an example of how families around Europe celebrate the contest and what people do at home with each other while they watch the final.»
